Zorgvliet Picnic

One of the great things about South Africa, and Cape Town especially, is our abundance of wine farms. Some times it feels like we are surrounded by a multitude of wine farms. You therefore have an abundance of choice when it comes to visiting one on the weekend. However good a glass of wine sounds, why not go the whole 9 yards and do a picnic? And why pack a picnic when all the farms will provide you with one?

We visited Zorgvliet Wine farm one Sunday morning and we had the whole place to ourselves! The picnic baskets are usually only available from 12pm and booking is essential. But what I loved about this place were the kiddies picnic baskets! They had chicken drumsticks, sweets, chips, juice and a toy, each one individual for each child (no fighting) in these colourful baskets. The children loved it! The grown-ups had the "Picnic basket for 4" and there were just too much food!! We ended up taking some home! It included fresh bread, preserved, a whole roast chicken, individual quiches, pasta salad, green salad and individual lemon meringue tarts.

With children the priorities changed and we now firstly look at the children's menu and whether the venue is child friendly (which it is- they even provide blankets and pillows!) however it is also great for adults too as the venue is big enough that children wouldn't irritate the other guests! Another fantastic day out.

I just had to include this picture of the Little Ones though. How adorable are they? So much has happened over the last two years but these are our pride and joy (left is Mia, middle is her bother Ben and right is our little Em with the two proud fathers below, Hubby left and Henno on the right).
