Our 1st Wedding Anniversary.

As we to married in the Mount Nelson Hotel, it is the only place to celebrate our First Wedding Anniversary. So what is really nice, is the fact that our wedding packing (among many other things) also included our first anniversary dinner. And the staff really try to make it special. Every single person who approached our table (from the person serving bread, filling our water and drinks glasses, serves the food, clears the food - yes they have a lot of people to look after you) knew it was our anniversary and congratulated us.

Something else the we always appreciate when we dine at the Planet Restaurant is the effort that the chef put into creating these little morsels that the serve while waiting for your food. This time we ad the best prawn tempura ever (according to hungry hubby) and cured beef and feta bite, a brilliant curried potato and leek soup and crudités with an eggplant dip. It was a good thing we didn't order starters! And by the way these little bites are always complimentary.

Hungry Hubby chose a big piece of succulent steak with chunky fries (and yes even the fries are better than a normal steakhouse) with a béarnaise sauce and a chef salad.

I had the linefish of the day (yellowtail) with mash, a herb pesto, tender stem broccoli and brusselsprouts. According to meat-lover Hungry Hubby, he almost (almost!) preferred the fish!

For dessert I chose a dish called "dumb blond" that has these delicious doughnuts filled with a white chocolate mouse, banana slices and goodness know what other goodies (a ribbon of pancake, vanilla ice cream and more white chocolate mouse).

Hungry Hubby went for something less sweet and chose the Baked Goat's Cheesecake. It was served with sweet quince jelly and braised sweet onions and little filo squares filled with blue cheese. It was a strange combination but it really seemed to work!

We had complimentary champagne ( or at least Hungry Hubby had our two glasses and I had an Appeltizer) and I had a non-alcohol if pepper pineapple Moch-hito and Hungry Hubby had a Van Rhyn brandy at the Planet Bar.

Ps as his gift I took him to the Van Rhyn distillery in Stellenbosch, where I had a huge piece of chocolate cake while he tasted the 10, 12, 15 and 20 year brandies.

I bought him the 15 and 20 year old brandies and 2 legend crystal balloon glasses. Now he can enjoy his favourite drink at home. I even bought the chocolates they use as palette cleansers.

I think we are going to make it a tradition!

Lunch box: Friday, 28 June 2013

I call this lunch box: bangers and mash deconstructed! What it is, is last night's dinner broken down into it's individual parts: mash, banger and curried green beans.

Staying with the green I added 2 kiwi fruit and green grapes. I wanted to add a juicy orange but the lunch box was too small.

Lunch box: Thursday, 27 June 2013

This is an ordered lunch (and will definitely be a regular) is chicken and vegetable quiche and salad with a big side of strawberries.

Strangely I enjoyed the salad the most. I seem to be going through these phases where one day I want loads of salad and the next day I'll be really cross if that is what I have to eat.

Wednesday, 26 June 2013

Today's lunch is made lovingly by Hungry Hubby: beef, hummus and lettuce wrap.  (With 7 WeightWatchers ProPoints) and I added spicy dip and a juicy orange. Wonder what he's making me for lunch tomorrow....

Lunchbox: Teusday, 25 June 2013

First real lunch since we got back from Maldives (post to follow soon) and the baby reveal part and as you can see the idea is to have healthy lunches.

I'm having chicken drumstick and thigh in a little basting sauce with a green salad with olives, avo and mango.

I'm back on WeightWatchers as well to keep my weight in check, so you'll be seeing a lot more healthier lunches from now on.

Baby Reveal Party

We finally had our Baby's Gender Reveal Party and what a success it was. Half of the family and friends said it was a girl and the other half was convinced it was a boy...

The menu was straight forward (even make ahead) and catered for a cold evening (divided between a starter, Pink and Blue):

Homemade French Onion Soup with French Bread
Chicken Curry with Rice
Beef Chilli with Assorted Breads

Club Med Kani, Maldives

We are going to Maldives! I can't wait as it is not only the first time visiting Maldives but also my first Club Med experience, so I am really excited. And boy, I can't wait to be spoiled for choice with both food (there is 2 restaurants apparently apart from the buffet main dining) and cocktails from the 2 bars. Mine will have to non-alcoholic but I'm certain they can provide me with an non-alcoholic piña colada!

We're not staying in the suites on stilts as the are quite expensive but also, I believe noisy. Can you imagine having people walk past you room on a jetty every night? And if you take the ones at the furthest edges to avoid too much traffic, then you will have one hell of a long distance to walk to your room. Usually that would be fine if you only go to your room in the evening but can you imagine having to go back and forth if you forgot something? I'll leave that to the honeymooners who probably won't be leaving the suite in any case. No we are trying in the Deluxe bungalows that are also on the beach with beautiful views but closer to all the goodies.

Our plans are to go to the Spa while the guys g deep sea fishing, I'm going to read by the pool while the rest of the group go scuba diving, then maybe one day to Mahe which is 30 minutes away and there is one excursion for souvenir shopping. The rest of the 8 days will be reading, relaxing, eating and drinking away from all the stresses and heartbreak already delivered this year.

So don't expect any posts until the 21st of June. I will thereafter give a complete post on all that has happened.
