Braai Nachos

This recipe is my camping “secret” that I keep on sharing. It’s so easy that I couldn’t hide it even if I wanted too!

The thing that takes the longest is the fire. You need medium to hot coals that you can bank to a medium low for a simmer. You will need a cast iron pot (us South Africans call it a “swart pot” which literally means black pot but we use it for stews on an open fire) or your trusty oven safe pot if you are making this at home.

Here’s what you need:

  • 1 kg Mince
  • 4 tbsp Fajita/taco spice
  • 1-2 cans chopped tomatoes
  • t tbsp Garlic
  • 1 onion chopped
  • Salt and pepper and more chilli if you like it spicy
Toppings:
  • nacho chips
  • salsa (tomato, onion, chilli)
  • Guacamole
  • Sour cream
  • grated cheddar cheese
  • jalapeno
  • chilli sauces
Instructions:
  1. Make a medium fire. In your cast onion pot, fry your onion in a bit of oil.
  2. Add your garlic and fajita/taco spice and fry until fragrant.
  3. Add your mince and separate and brown the meat.
  4. Add the tomatoes and reduce the heat by scraping away some coals and allow it to simmer uncovered until the sauce is reduced to your liking.
  5. Top with the grated cheese and allow to melt.
  6. Spread out all the toppings on a table and add bowls.
  7. Once ready add chips to the bowl, top with the hot mince mixture.
  8. Add toppings as you like.

Enjoy!
