Father's Day 2018

For Father's Day we did something different: we went on an old steam train to the Elgin Station Market with Ceres Rail. The Toddler was so excited as she has learned about trains but has never been on one. This was definitely an experience for us all, though it did bring many memories back for Grandma!

The train has a cart full of couches, a dining cart and a bar cart (filled with leather chairs).

But we all got our own cabins who are still so old school!. Just look at the basin!

First things first we went for some coffee and muffins to start the morning.

These two spent most of the 3-4 hour journey just looking out the window.

The Toddler wanted to experience the drop down bunker and ended up falling asleep!

When we finally reached our destination, the Elgin Railway Market, Toddler got to see how the train works.

This place is really amazing and worth a visit without the train. It is this big open space with beautiful high ceilings and these big fans. The have tables that you share in the middle and food stalls all around. There is even shops on the second level (and an amazing pizza place)

There is something for anyone, burgers, ribs, pizza, farm food, mexican and so many more.

I obviously found the Gin table. I had this amazing red hued gin that made me all kinds of happy!

We had the ribs with the bast no may slaw ever, fries and later the mini chicken sliders. I was really intrigued by the pizza cones but didn't try one (I'll do that next time!)

Toddler and I also got some new jewellery to celebrate, while Dad got some serious chilli sauce!

There was eve some live music!

At the end of the day we had a bit of a mishap, a freight train spilled diesel on the tracks so the Ceres Rail got us some luxury busses to fetch us but by this time it was 15h00 and they still had to come all the way from Cape Town. It was so freezing cold and a bit of a downer. But Toddler absolutely loved it as she got to go on a train and a big bus. Kids. They really do show you how to make the best of it!
